Cover: CyBase is a database that collates information on circular proteins—that is, proteins whose backbones form a continuous cycle of peptide bonds and hence have no N- or C-terminus. The structures of selected examples of circular proteins from bacteria, plants and animals are shown. Circular proteins are exceptionally stable and have a range of antimicrobial activities. For further information see the paper by Mulvenna et al. in this issue [Nucleic Acids Res. (2006) 34, D192–D194].
